Have you subscribed to the HP Instant Ink program yet?

HP’s Instant Ink program is almost too good to be true. If you do ANY printing at home, you seriously need to consider subscribing! Find out how to get your first few months totally free!

What is HP Instant Ink?

With HP Instant Ink you pay for printing based on the number of pages you print, not the amount of ink you use.  You no longer have to worry about buying ink, choosing to print black instead of color, or trying to print in color save mode!

Ink cartridges are automatically delivered to you when your printer starts to get low on ink. Your new ink will arrive at your door BEFORE you run out! This means you’ll never have to run out at the last minute to buy ink!

Does HP Instant Ink save money??

Yes!! We’ve been using instant ink for about 4 years. I have found I can get roughly 400 pages per ink cartridge. The same cartridge is about $45 in-store, which would be about $0.11 per page. With instant ink, it costs about $0.03-$0.05 per page, depending on your plan!!! (That’s not including any promo codes!)

The first month I had instant ink, I kept forgetting that I could print color for the same price as black. If you like printing pictures and graphics, you will love the freedom to print FULL-COLOR pages. It has been difficult to remember that I can print as much color as I want!!

If you are currently paying to have your photos printed, seriously compare the costs. The type of paper and amount of color does not matter with the instant ink program, so you can print high-quality photos on photo paper cheaper than at most stores. (Remember, it’s about $0.05 per page!!)

One of my favorite things about this program is that you can roll your un-used pages over to the next month.  That means if I’m paying for 100 pages, but only use 50 one month, next month I have 150 pages to print.   You can also change plans at any time!!

What HP Instant Ink plan should you get?

Below is a chart of the different plans. The awesome thing about the program is that when you first sign up (with a promo code of course!), you can select the most expensive plan. This will allow you to see how many pages you really print in a month. When your promo period is over, adjust your plan accordingly.

When we first signed up, we averaged about 100 pages per month. However, in the summer of 2019, I was in charge of planning VBS for my church. That summer, I averaged about 800 pages per month. Thankfully I had rollover pages from the spring to cover all the extras! I am now averaging about 400 pages per month. But that includes a TON of printing for my church with my children’s coordinator job.

You can also change your plan at any time. You can change it every month if you’d like! This is perfect if you print more during certain times of the year- like during school, or at Christmas etc.

*There are more plans available for 500 and 1500 pages.

3 Ways to Print for FREE!

The only thing better than cheap printing is FREE printing. Currently, there are multiple ways to get several months of printing totally free. Some codes can be stacked, which means you should try to enter as many promo codes as you have! (When we signed up, we had enough codes to get our first 6 months free!)

When you sign up, be sure to select the largest package. Your unused pages will roll over, and you can also drop down to a smaller package when your free months are up.

1) New Printer Deal

When you buy a new HP printer that is compatible with the instant ink program, you will probably get a few months for free. Our new printer came with 3 months free and a $5 rebate card, but I’ve frequently seen up to 6 months free.

You should be able to find a good printer on sale for around $100.

2) Referral Codes

Once you sign up, you will be given a referral code to share. For every person who signs up under your link, you’ll get a month for free, and so will they!

Here’s my code to get your free month

3) Share your referral code!

Once you have created your account, start sharing your code! There is a Facebook group made for sharing your code. When people search google for “hp instant ink promo code” your code will pop up! You can also share your code on sites like RetailMeNot.

Do you have to buy a new printer??

No! There are many printers that can be used with the HP Instant Ink program. You can check if your current printer is compatible here.

How to Find a Great Deal on New Printer

There is a good chance the amount of money you save on the Instant Ink program will more than pay for a new printer. You can get a good printer for surprisingly cheap! You can often find a new HP printer/copier/scanner for less than $50! Here are a few ways to get a great deal.

First, be sure you have a Rakuten account (formerly Ebates). This will help you earn cashback on any printer you choose. Rakuten will also automatically add any coupon codes!!

I would check prices at stores in this order: HP Store, Staples, Best Buy, Walmart, then Amazon. The price at the first 3 stores may be a bit higher, but they also are more likely to offer deals on the Instant Ink program. You’ll want to factor these deals into the price of your printer.

    1. There’s a chance they changed things in the 6 months since I signed up. I had one code automatically added because of the referral link I clicked, then during checkout, I was able to add the rest of my codes. Hopefully, you can still do it! Even if you only get one code to work, using instant ink will save you money! Let me if it works.
